The Romani studies programme at the Department of Central European Studies (offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees) provides a multidisciplinary perspective on the culture, history and current situation of Roma communities focusing on mastering the language and learning about the life prospects the Roma face nowadays.

Hungarian Studies

The Hungarian language, literature and history has been taught at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, since 2007 and is part of the Central European Studies programme as one of their specializations. Our department is currently the only one in the Czech Republic that provides Hungarian studies at the university level.

Polish Studies

Thanks to the Polish studies programme at the Department of Central European Studies you can learn the Polish language, get to know Polish culture and literature and learn about current events in the area of our northern neighbours. The Polish specialization, set in the framework of Central European Studies, offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Journal “Romano Džaniben”

This journal of Romani studies publishes peer-reviewed articles by authors from Czechia and abroad on cultural, social and historical aspects of the life of the Roma in various parts of the world, memoires, literature written by the Roma, reviews of both academic literature and Roma-authored fiction.
