Cooperation

International cooperation

DCES has concluded agreements with a dozen of universities mainly in Poland and Slovakia in the framework of Erasmus+ the major European programme for exchange stays for students and staff.

Since 2016, our Romani Studies Section has joined the international Network of Academic Institutions in Romani Studies.

In 2011–2012, we co-organized, together with the Department of Linguistics and the Department of Germanic Studies, an international PhD summer school Training Institute in Multilingualism Research as part of the activities of the European association LINEE+.

The Central European Academic Initiative

We have joined forces with universities in Bratislava, Krakow and Ljubljana to create the joint Master’s programme Central European Studies.

Intra-university Cooperation

DCES collaborates with researchers at several faculty departments, mainly but not exclusively the following:

  • Department of Germanic Studies
  • Department of Linguistics
  • Department of South Slavonic and Balkan Studies
  • Department of Eastern European Studies
  • Department of Czech History

With some of these departments we have collaborated on the research plan “Language as Human Activity, Its Product and Factor”. With the Department of South Slavonic, Balkan Studies, Department of Eastern European Studies and Deparment of Linguistics we share several BA and MA courses, and cooperate on the PhD programmes Slavonic Philology and Slavonic Literature. Lecturers from the Romani Studies also contribute to the PhD courses in programmes Languages of Asia and Africa, and History and Cultures of Asian and African Countries.

DCES participated in projects organized by the Prague Centre of Jewish Studies at Charles University. We are also part of the Centre for Collective Memory Research – a joint project of a university research centre (UNCE) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, and Faculty of Arts.

We carry out research on the theory and practice of language management together with the Department of General Linguistics (Jiří Nekvapil), the Department of Germanic Studies (Vít Dovalil), and our students. In 2013 we organized the Third International Language Management Symposium. We also run a website on language management.

Together with the Department of Czech History we cooperated on the faculty research plan sub-programme Formation and Development of National Identities in 19th– and 20th-century Central Europe (led by Jan Randák, Department of Czech History).
